About Us
Atlas of Today’s World aims to help the worldwide public better understand the broad socio-political reality of today’s world. Living in an information environment which is flooded with fragmented information and manipulation makes it very difficult to develop a correct understanding of the global situation. Yet, this understanding is needed for developing global solidarity and to reduce current polarization connected to global issues such as migration or major conflicts such as the war in Ukraine, Gaza or Iran. To address this, we are building a new kind of map-based encyclopedic source. It is being created in close cooperation with invited experts, but popularized for non-expert audiences. It will be promoted through collaboration with other NGOs, media outlets, and influencers.
We have just prepared the first version of a big-picture portrait of the socio-political situation in the Middle East and North Africa. We will be reaching out to potential authors for the individual entries and negotiating partnerships with various research institutions, media outlets, NGOs, and influencers. The project has been created in close collaboration with an editor from the Candid Foundation, and a media partnership is currently being discussed with Global Voices.
About the Role
We are looking for a full-stack developer with a focus on building interactive websites and an interest in the NGO sector. A successful candidate will learn about our ambitious project and work closely with the founder to develop a crucial part of our product by implementing an interactive website in Webflow based on an existing Figma prototype.
Minimum Requirements
Responsibilities
Developing a custom-coded 3D globe with interactive elements to be placed into a Webflow page.
Managing and configuring the areas of the globe and the data that is associated with them
Collaborating with other developers and non-technical team members
Minimum requirements:
5 hrs/week availability
Working knowledge of Figma
Knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript
Back-end development experience familiarity with servers and APIs
Available portfolio of previous work
What Can You Expect:
You can expect support from a diverse Atlas team with expertise in multiple areas and a flexible working schedule. Our previous developer will be available for questions, and there is a Webflow specialist on the team who will support the website building process. As you work with us you may also learn about other parts of the project if you choose to be more involved. In addition to the experience and the volunteer status, we will encourage adding the completed project to your portfolio.
What We Expect:
You will focus on implementing an existing Figma prototype into reality using Webflow. Updates and changes are possible, and we expect reliable communication during our cooperation. You will familiarize yourself with the overall idea of the project, the prototype, and be proactive about resolving challenges that may arise along the way.
